After five years of filming and editing surf films and campaigns nationally and abroad for prolific surf brands, Jay decided to narrow his focus on narrative, leading him to study cinematography at the Australian Film Television Radio School in 2014. Since graduating, he has shot award-winning shorts and feature films as well as music videos, documentaries and commercials.
His credits include: Sequin In A Blue Room directed by Samuel Van Grinsven, which had its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival, winning the Audience Award For Best Feature Film. The film has screened at festivals around the world since, including Palm Springs International Film Festival and Outfest LA and was nominated for Best Indie Feature Film at The AACTA Awards in 2019, later being acquired by Amazon Prime; and Hot Mess directed by Lucy Coleman, which had its international premiere at Seattle International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Indie Feature Film at The AACTA Awards in 2020 after being picked up by Netflix.
Jay recently won Best Cinematography at Byron Bay International Film Festival for his work on the short film Headless Chooks directed by Sean Clancy Donovan.
